What is the magnetic coupling?
Magnetic couplings are employed in seal-less, leak-free magnetic drive pumps used to handle volatile,flammable, corrosive, abrasive, toxic or foul smelling liquids. The inner and outer magnet rings are fitted with permanent magnets, hermetically sealed from the liquids, in a multipole arrangement.
 
The inner and outer magnetic rotors are locked together by magnetic forces and work as a synchronous coupling. The permanent-permanent magnetic couplings create neither slippage nor induction current during rotation. When excessive torque is applied, the magnets will decouple, they will not recouple unless the pump is stopped.
 
The function of the coupling is to connect two shafts of different components together to transmit motion and power. Traditional couplings are all contact couplings. According to whether they have elastic parts inside, they can be divided into flexible couplings and rigid couplings. The interior of the elastic coupling has elastic parts made of metal springs or rubber plastics, so it has the function of buffering vibration absorption and the ability to adapt to the axis deviation. It is suitable for occasions subject to variable load impact and frequent starting and reversing. It is also suitable for applications where 2-axis cannot be strictly aligned. There is no elastic part in the rigid coupling, so there is no ability to absorb vibration.

How does a magnetic coupling work?
The magnetic drive coupling is a non-contact coupling. It is generally composed of two magnets inside and outside, and the two magnets are separated by a spacer in the middle. The inner magnet is connected with the driven member, and the outer magnet is connected with the power member. In addition to the function of the elastic coupling buffering vibration absorption, the magnetic drive coupling has the greatest feature that it can completely enclose the inner magnet and the driven member, and in the absence of mechanical contact, the power member is coupled by magnetic coupling. Movement and power are transmitted to the driven parts. Therefore, he is widely used in chemical machinery and equipment, such as autoclaves and transfer pumps.
 
There are two main types of magnetic drive couplings: planar magnetic drive couplings and coaxial magnetic drive couplings. The following mainly describes the working principle of the coaxial magnetic drive coupling.
